Bits, bytes and why Mbps is not MB/s
Network speeds are measured in bits per second (Mbps, Gbps), while files are measured in bytes (MB, GB). There are 8 bits in a byte, so a 100 Mbps link moves about 12.5 MB per second, not 100. This converter handles the conversion so you can quote plans and download times correctly.
SI vs binary (GB vs GiB)
Storage and networking use decimal (SI) units where 1 GB = 1000 MB. Operating systems often report binary units where 1 GiB = 1024 MiB, which is why a "1 TB" drive shows as ~931 GiB. Both are included above.
